Freight wagons - USATC

Wagons to GB loading gauge made for the US Army Transportation Corps. Thousands of these wagons were assembled in Britain between 1942 and 1944, and moved by rail to ports in preparation for the invasion of Europe. All types were tried in service on Britain's railways, but of the models depicted here only the twin-bogie flat and tank wagons were found to be suitable for sustained internal traffic. The wagons supplied from Britain, and thousands more supplied directly to the Continent, eventually entered service with European rail operators.
